Squiggles, squiggles everywhere!

Shark Squiggle

I’ve been doodling my squiggle again… you know, my squiggle logo.

Anyway, terrible jokes aside — I’ve made the recent additions of a camouflage style squiggle, a shark fin squiggle (my new favourite!) and a few halloween themed ones. I felt bad posting a load of them of them all at once on my Instagram (more like #instaSPAM!), but not really because I’m a social media attention whore.

MI CSS LOGO

I’ve been wanting to make the Modest Innovation logo a single div element made purely out of CSS (actual CSS version below), instead of an image. This was for a few reasons.

Firstly, I wanted to learn how make CSS icons by calling a single element. My logo is simple so I thought it would be a good starting point. Secondly, once it’s done it’ll save the headache of optimising it for retina display devices.
Lastly, it’s super fast and fucking awesome.

Inspired by one-div I set out to learn about the :before and :after pseudo elements (with the help of Smashing Magazine) and how it all works.

Feel free to use the code and manipulate it over on GitHub.

The Cheese Grater Logo

I had some left over foam board from a project that we’ve just handed in so I decided to use the rest of the board by mounting up TCG’s logo. I had a blunt snapper knife so the edges are fucked, however, I also had a brown sharpie pen so I managed to salvage what I can. I mage a big one and a small one. Here’s the small one, but the big one is so much better.

Small logo. Still awesome.

Logo Competitions etc.

I’ve stumbled across a great website, it’s called Worth1000.

It’s a neat little website for photoshop/illustrator lovers. It has quite a community behind it offering tutorials for beginners, photoshop contests, and the best bit, advanced contests in which clients can open a competition with a cash reward for the best logo that they can use for their company.

I looked at a few of the finished contests to see what level of skill was put into the outcome and thought I would give it a go. So I tried out for a logo contest offering $1000 for the chosen logo.

The company was called GridIron Systems Inc. A company all about accelerated data transfer speeds and external storage. They’ve specified certain mandatories such as number of colours, what words much be included etc.

Voting starts in 7 days. Here’s my entry with variants. A bold, yet simplistic logo combining the strength and speed of the cheetah into the professionalism of a trust worthy business.

Also works well with a black background.
